About Black Farmers Network

Black Farmers Network (BFN) is a national ecosystem advancing the social, economic, and agricultural development of Black growers, youth, and women across Canada. We bridge the gap between farm producers and the growing demand for fresh, culturally relevant food.

The Problem We Solve

Grassroots Black farmers face systemic barriers, including limited access to land, capital, and infrastructure. Historical exclusion has led to underrepresentation in mainstream agricultural policy and support.

Our Solution

BFN unlocks the potential of underserved communities by fostering food security and strengthening local economies. We move participants beyond subsistence into viable, income-generating agri-businesses.

Training & Mentorship: Practical, hands-on upskilling in soil health, greenhouse production, and livestock.  Market Access: Connecting farmers to food banks, local markets, and institutions.  Innovation: Promoting climate-smart practices and modern agri-tech for year-round production.

To see Black farmers, growers, and agripreneurs thriving across Canada with full access to land and infrastructure, building generational prosperity and food sovereignty.

OUR OBJECTIVES

H - Heritage: Honoring ancestral agricultural knowledge.

    - Accountability: Acting with integrity to our partners.

R - Resilience: Building strength to withstand shocks.

V - Vision & Innovation: Combining tradition with modern tools.

    - Equity: Challenging systemic barriers to land and markets.

S- Sustainability: Protecting land for future generations.

    - Togetherness: Believing in shared prosperity.
